Welcome to an island of no pollution, no billboards, no graffiti, no litter, no rental cars, and virtually no unemployment. Bermuda is justifiably famous for pink-sand beaches, impossibly blue water, and kelly-green golf courses. But that's only the beginning. Thanks to its colorful past, this small sliver of land also has a surprising number of historic sites. In addition to countless quaint old cottages, it's said to have the oldest continually inhabited town of English origin in the Western Hemisphere and — because of its strategic Atlantic location — more forts per square mile than any other place on earth.
Bermuda has a distinctive culture, too: one that combines a reverence for British traditions dating back to colonial days with a more relaxed attitude befitting a subtropical island. In court, for instance, local lawyers may still wear formal flowing robes — yet there's a good chance they're sporting Bermuda shorts beneath them. So while you're here, take time to look beyond the obvious and savor all that Bermuda has to offer.
King's Wharf has something for everyone. Sample typical island food and stroll through the shops and museums of the Royal Naval Dockyard, an impressive military fortress built in 1815. Sail the clear waters of Hamilton Sound. Find quaint gems at the Bermuda Arts Center and Craft Market. If that's not enough, a snorkel park and watersports facility offer hours of activities to the adventuresome.
When you arrive in Bermuda, there will be dozens of activities and optional shore and land excursions for you to take advantage of, if you truly want to experience the destination.
Bermudian products are available at great prices. These products, exclusive to Bermuda, include cedar-wood gifts, commemorative coins, miniature ceramic cottages, handbags with cedar and mahogany handles, hand-crafted gold jewelry, polished shark's teeth mounted in 14-karat gold, and the famous Bermuda shorts.
